BAS is contracted to provide off-shore support services for the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm and required an operational base close by. OWL Architects obtained planning and other statutory consents and project managed the scheme to completion. A number of access and site constraints presented themselves, not least infrastructure for a remote harbour side site, fuel contamination and an installation constituting a special fire hazard. The works fell into three distinct elements: aircraft hangar and internal fit-out, external areas (including a structural raft) and fuel installation. Negotiation with a number of stakeholders was also key including Scottish and Southern Electricity and Associated British Ports.
