Broads Retreat Lowestoft, Suffolk Scope: Planning and Building Regulations Client: Private Value: Undisclosed
Broads Retreat is a bespoke 1960’s modernist house with a desirable river frontage. Of concrete framed construction with masonry infill panels it had previously been altered and extended losing in part the definition of the original design. OWL was invited to develop proposals that would increase its floor area and in practise this meant reintroducing some of the original clarity in order to unify the whole. The circulation, particularly at ground floor level was clumsy and the final design provides a simpler layout of better sized rooms together with a more rational façade. |
