Community Entreprise Centre, BungayStage: Planning Client: BBC / Coin Street Value: £1.8 million
The proposal combines a community and business start-up facility on a site adjacent Old Grammar Lane to the south of Bungay town centre. The footprints of the two elements are co-joined to limit the ‘spread’ of development and share common plant and a continuous envelope but have dedicated entrances. The building is conceived as two homogeneous and rectangular blocks clad in timber shingles with a predominantly flat roof incorporating a large raised dormer structure over the main hall. A key landscape feature of the proposals is the formation of earth mounding to the south of the community hall that creates natural enclosure for outside functions. The centre is predominately naturally lit and ventilated and otherwise optimised to exploit natural daylight and solar gain. |
