The original house, of 1970’s box dormer style, was in very poor condition and its visual quality and layout were less than ideal. The house was subsequently extended and substantially remodelled with a gabled wing to the front façade and a new slate roof that integrated an existing garage and provided better first floor accommodation. This created a homogeneous appearance and improved thermal performance. A new oil-fired condensing boiler replaced an inefficient 3 phase electrical heating system and is supplemented by solar collectors on the south facing roof slope. The completed property delivers reduced energy costs and is now an attractive addition to its rural location.
