The Waveney House Hotel Beccles, SuffolkRole: Planning and Building Regulations scope: Listed Building, Extension, Refurbishment Client: Barsham Securities Value: Undisclosed
The Waveney House Hotel is a Grade II Listed building situated on the River Waveney in Beccles, Suffolk. OWL Architects obtained planning and Building Regulations consent on behalf of its owners for its extensive refurbishment and extension. A number of later additions were demolished to make way for new accommodation located to the rear, so as not to detract from the main aspect of the original building. The result is a harmonious merging of the traditional and the modern; the hotel rooms retaining a period character with many original features. OWL Architects employed a variety of construction methods including the conservancy of historic masonry and timber framed elements to the insertion of new steel structural members and masonry walls. The whole was re-roofed in black glazed pan tiles and the interior finish involved much fibrous plaster and specialist joinery work. |
